Lecture:
In the pre field trip
lecture, we will discuss
digital shooting techniques
as they apply to swamp
photography from boats. We
will concentrate on
composition and lighting;
the most important aspects
to great photography. We
will also work on tips and
techniques to photographing
sunsets, wildlife, and
close-ups. Photo editing
with Adobe Lightroom will
also be covered. Finally we will
discuss equipment and the
logistics of the field trip.
Lecture location will most
likely be at the Backpacker
or CC’s office.
Field Trip:
We will meet at a
central location in Baton
Rouge and immediately take
off to one of the great
sites on the east side of
Atchafalaya Basin. Drive
time approximately one hour.
Exact location depends on
water level in the basin and
will be decided closer to
the launch date.
This year we will travel the
Basin by a Bateau instead of
canoe.
We will concentrate
on landscapes of bald
cypress trees, bayous, and a
fall swamp sunset. There
is also a good chance of
getting some wetland
wildlife.
Equipment:
You will need your camera,
lens, extra chips, extra
batteries, and some kind of
protective case for your
gear. Bring your tripod if
you have one. Lens: A good
wide angle is best for most
landscapes, a macro lens for
close-ups, and a telephoto
of 200mm up to 300mm is good
for wildlife. Remember
though, “It’s
you that gets the
good picture, not the
equipment.”
Other Gear:
Sack lunch,
drink/water, small towel,
hat, sunscreen, sunglasses,
mosquito repellent,
notebook, pen and clothes
for the current weather.
Critique Session:
We meet at location
in Baton RougeTBA to show our best 10
photographs to the group. CC
will make comments and
suggestions on how you did.
It’s best to bring your 10
photographs from this trip
on a memory stick. Resize
them to 10 inches on the
long side at 72 dpi and save
as a Jpeg.
At anytime in any of
the three sessions feel free
to ask questions about
anything including
technique, equipment,
marketing your photographs,
setting up a web page,
making prints, books, cards
or other photo products.
